Retirement and medical care benefits were available to 70 percent of civilian workers in March 2017. About two-thirds of private industry workers and 9 out of 10 state and local government workers had access to these benefits.

Compensation costs increased 0.5 percent for civilian workers, seasonally adjusted, from March 2017 to June 2017.
Over the year, compensation rose 2.4 percent, wages and salaries rose 2.3 percent, and benefits rose 2.5 percent.

Employer costs for civilian workers averaged $24.10 per hour worked for wages and salaries and $11.18 for benefits in June 2017. Retirement costs were $1.92, accounting for 5.4 percent of total compensation costs.
